how to copy files from several folders into a single folder in the fastest way

hi,
currently, becoz of my camera limitation which creates a new folder for every hundred photos. i'll like to know the fastest method to copy files from from several folders into a single folder in the fastest way

would like to know if there are any DOS command or windows shortcut that can copy all the files from all the folders in the DCIM folder into a single folder on the harddisk. becoz it's very troublesome to go into each and every directory, select all and then copy to a single folder to the harddisk. i prefer to load all pictures in a single folder rather than few folders with 100 photos each.

Use a card reader, copy the DCIM 'folder' into a new folder?? I thought thats it......

Use Adobe .. eerrr .. wat was it already. Adobe Browser or something like that. It can automaticall copy from multiple folders to a single folder, rename the files as it copies and a couple more functions. :D

I'm using that on my house PC, not too sure if they have that on Mac. I'm looking for the Mac version too. Linux ... mmm, no idea. :D

this is to help me solve future file copying.

ok, i'm using win XP, i dun like to go to copy the entire DCIM into my harddisk becoz it will create several folder inside and i'll have to enter each separate folder to view the photos, i want all my photos in one folder.

and the other thing is that, win xp will always load those folders from removable media, like CD-rom, Card readers and etc in Thumbnail mode, and it's slow in creating the thumbnails, which is what i hate.

using the canon zoom browser is even worse as with over 1000+ photos u'll have to wait quite some time for it to finish creating all the thumbnails from the card reader

are there any xcopy command or perl or scripting command that can help me to copy all the folders in the DCIM folder into a single folder. and please dun ask me to use MAC or linux pls.

Yup, to select multiple folders: [Shift]+[right-mouse-click] over folders. Then Hold[rightclick] and move all the folders from card to HDD.

yeah but then i still end up with multiple folders on my hard drive, i want all those files from the multiple folder to be in a single folder. i know 30D can fit 1000 photo in a single folder but sadly i'm not using that camera.

OK, I'm clear now. 1. open all the folders at once. 2. Create new folder to copy files to. 3. Then select all files from each folder and drag&drop into new folder. I don't know any other shorter ways, anybody?

Or he can pass me the CFs and I open, sort and burn a CD for him... at RM10 per CD :D :D

save it as blurrcop.bat to c:\windows\system32

to copy all jpg (including those in the subdirectory) from c:\test to c:\all type the following

blurrcop c:\test c:\all

u will then have all jpg file from c:\test (including those in sub) in one whole directory in c:\all

i'm looking for such a script, but your script does not work. it does not goes into the directory to copy all the files. but thanks for your effort, guess i'll have to revert to my old ways of going into all the directory, select file and then copy.


maybe there's some error in your batch command. any more dos gurus out there.

thanks blurman can work already, yesterday it wasn't working becoz the software i using to copy the pictures deleted all the photos after copying so when i tried ur batch file. nothing is copied.

one more thing i feel u should modify is that you should use *.* as the wild card instead of *.jpg becoz sometimes there are also RAW files and movie files on the CF. with *.* you can copy all file instead of just JPEG files.


i really admire ur effort in writing such a batch file. you're such a DOS guru. i already forgot all about all these batch commands.

the ultimate version of this software is different folder at different location and copy all the files into one folder. i think this one need to be written in windows...i leave this to you :-))

ar.. but i'm no programmer, all my vb , c++ programming skill has been long lost. by the way how to modify it to print out filename, that's the only gripe i have now. i dun even know the "FOR" commands exists for DOS until u show your script. i've already modified it for *.* because i want to copy all file including .CRW raw files.

in order to print out the name, u will need to have another batch file also need to modify the first batch file to call the 2nd batch file

cheers for giving such a good reply, actually i also posted ur batch file solution to the clubsnap forum in singapore where this guy who is using a EOS 10D was complaining why canon only allow 100 files per folder.

thus this will solve all the problem for him. maybe some programmer here will be kind enough to come up with a VB or some windows based GUI solution. am i asking too much? heheh

the bat work's fine but when copying files with the same filename it don't rename it, so the file is replace with a new one.

is there a way to rename a filename if there is already one with the same name on the destiny folder?

bet you were trying to figure out a way to perform it and search through google and the result came into this forum :p

download irfanview for free
then go to batch conversion
choose batch rename
then go to the folders you want and add all the filenames you want
set the output folder
then start and voila... all the files will be transfered into the output folder with all files renamed - don't need to worry about duplicates
